Richard Williams

RICHARD WILLIAMS, affectionately known as “Sonny” by his family, was born July 1, 1940, in Baltimore, MD to the late Albert Sr. and Flora Williams. He departed this life on November 14, 2025. Richard/Sonny attended Carver Vocational Technical High School in Baltimore Maryland and later graduated. Growing up in his younger years Richard/Sonny loved working at the local bowling alley. In his spare time, he would read the local newspaper to men who could not read or write. Richard’s Christian journey began at a young age at John Wesley United Methodist Church. As a member of the Junior Usher Choir, he also participated in Boy Scouts and attended Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. On October 29,1961 he married Camilla Williams, the Love of his life. From this union Van, Tiera, and Tammy were born. After high school Richard/Sonny worked at a tire company. He would go on to find his forever career working at U.S. Gypson as a Foreman for over 30 years, from which he retired after a successful tenure. Richard/Sonny was known as the jokester in the family. He enjoyed being with his family and his beloved Orioles. He even had a “part-time” job as an usher at Camden Yards with the Orioles. Most of his time he spent in his basement or out on the back porch, either watching tv, listening to the radio, reading his paper or falling asleep. He had a special bond with his grandchildren and great-grandson, Darrius; his grandson had a special place in his heart and life. He was phenomenal provider to his family and a role model to his grandchildren and great-grandson. Our family looked forward to celebrating the holidays and spending it all together with him, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas sitting around the dining room table telling stories and cracking jokes. Richard/Sonny is preceded in death by his father Albert Williams Sr. (1969) and his mother Flora Williams (2025), his sister Catherine Bell (2022), and his godfather Richard Williams, whom he is named after. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Camilla Williams; three children, Van, Tiera and Tammy; six grandchildren, Marcus, TT, Darrius, Kieera, Julius and Vanessa; great-grandson, Gavin; two brothers, Albert Jr. (Henrietta – deceased) and Bertie (Lynn); three sisters, Marian (Leroy – deceased), Sarah (Selwyn) and Beatrice (James); nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
