PAMELA FLETCHER WOODS was born on September 22, 1956, in Northeast Washington, D.C., to the late Charles Stanley Fletcher, Sr. and Ruby Dale Williams Fletcher. The eldest of five children, Pam embraced her role as big sister with love, strength, and a protective spirit. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Stanley Fletcher, Jr., and her husband of 45 years, James Leroy Woods. Pam was educated in the D.C. Public Schools system and graduated from H.D. Woodson Senior High School in 1974, where she excelled academically as an Honor Student and served joyfully as a Pom-Pom girl in the school band. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was a member of Incarnation Catholic Church, where her faith took root and guided her throughout her life. Pam earned an academic scholarship to Virginia Union University, where she shined as a majorette and became a proud member of the Alpha Eta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated initiated in the Fall of 1975. Her line name, “Ivy Twirl,” reflected her grace, poise, and spirited presence. While at Virginia Union, she met the love of her life, James Leroy Woods, Jr. The two were united in holy matrimony on April 29, 1978, and from this union they welcomed their beloved son, Kevin Lance Woods, in 1985. Pam shared a deeply special and close relationship with her son Kevin. He was her greatest joy, her proudest accomplishment, and the light of her life. Their bond was rooted in love, mutual respect, shared adventures, and the unshakeable friendship they built over the years. To Kevin, she was not only a devoted mother, but also a confidante, cheerleader, and guiding force whose presence will be forever treasured. A dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Pam recently celebrated 50 years in the sorority, earning the prestigious distinction of “Golden Soror.” Her light always shined brightly in Alpha Kappa Alpha, where she served as the 4th President of the Upsilon Epsilon Omega Chapter from 2004–2005. Her administration’s theme, “Uplifting and Empowering Ourselves, Uplifting and Empowering Others,” lives on today as the chapter’s motto. Under her leadership, the chapter celebrated its 10th anniversary and hosted its first Cluster Conference. Even after her presidency, Soror Pam remained active in UEO—faithfully supporting programs, events, and initiatives. She served as a trusted mentor, advocate, and guiding presence to the presidents who followed her, leaving a legacy of sisterhood, leadership, and love. A dedicated public servant, Pam began her federal career in the 12th grade as an intern with the Internal Revenue Service. Her strong work ethic, intellect, and commitment to excellence carried her through 30 years of distinguished service across the federal government. Her roles included Compliance Specialist at the Department of Labor, International Trade Specialist at the U.S. International Trade Commission, and a key position at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Trade Compliance Center. Pam was a trailblazer and advocate for equity in the federal workplace. She was one of four founders of the Blacks in Government (BIG) Department of Commerce Chapter and later served as its President for two years. She authored a policy paper on behalf of the national BIG organization and played a pivotal role in establishing the Department of Commerce’s Diversity Council. She was a steadfast champion for African American employees facing discrimination and was highly respected by senior leadership across the agency. Beyond her professional excellence, Pam lived a life filled with joy, wonder, and adventure. A true Disney enthusiast, she proudly served as a Disney Ambassador and was actively making plans to relocate to Orlando to be near her favorite place on earth. She delighted in sharing tips, stories, and guidance to help others create their own magical Disney experiences. Pam also enjoyed attending concerts, exploring new experiences, and cheering on her favorite football team—the Baltimore Ravens. Pam’s legacy is one of faith, love, service, and celebration. She will be remembered for her warm spirit, her boundless generosity, her loyalty to family and friends, and the countless ways she inspired others to live fully and joyfully. Pam leaves to cherish her memory her son, Kevin Lance Woods; siblings, Michael David Fletcher, Patrick Daniel Fletcher, Sr., and Virginia Elizabeth Fletcher Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousin. Her memory will live in the hearts of her family, friends, Sorors, colleagues, and all who were blessed to know her.
