Gloria J. Wells

GLORIA J. WELLS departed this life into her heavenly home on Monday, July 15th, 2024 at Beacon Place in Greensboro, NC, surrounded by her family. Gloria was born on April 26th, 1949 to the late James and Beatrice Carroll in Baltimore, Maryland. Gloria married Thomas Leroy Wells in June of 1968. Of that union, one child, Melissa Lynette Wells, was born. The marriage was dissolved in 2000. Gloria (also known as “Aunt G”) received her education in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from Western All-Girls High School in 1967. After graduation from high school, she worked at Northern Acceptance Corp. She furthered her education at the Community College of Baltimore City where she majored in Accounting. She then went to work for Maryland Casualty Insurance Company for over 15 years where she worked and ended her professional career as an exceptional underwriter. Gloria gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. She later became a member of New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Gloria later moved to Greensboro, North Carolina where she worked at Life Family Christian Bookstore part-time. She attended Harvest Church in Jamestown, North Carolina where she was a part of many different ministries. She worked as a substitute teacher in various schools within the area. She was very passionate about giving back to the community and volunteered countless hours with Guilford County Board of Elections as well as High Point Regional Hospital. Gloria had a passion for being around family and friends. This could be seen through her beloved hobby of playing Pinochle with others as well as her selflessness in taking care of loved ones as they became ill. She had a special place in her heart for her two granddaughters, Donna and Christen Thompson. She spent countless hours showing up for them as a homework helper, dance and cheer competition attendee, and transporter to and from school and practices. Donna and Christen will forever cherish these special moments as they display the eternal love expressed by their grandmother. In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her elder brother, Irvin M. Sutton Sr. and elder sister, Geraldine S. Curry. Her legacy and love will continue to live on in the hearts of: her daughter, Melissa Wells Thompson (Christopher); her granddaughters, Donna Jacqueline Thompson and Christen Jeane Thompson; two sisters-in-law, Jessie Wells and Marilyn Sutton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and extended family members
