Geneva Yvonne St. Rose Smith

GENEVA YVONNE ST. ROSE SMITH, affectionately known to her immediate family as “GG” (Grandma Geneva), “Mommy”, and “Ma”, departed this life unexpectedly, surrounded by her immediate family, on March 3, 2026. Geneva was born on December 6, 1940, in Baltimore Maryland to the late Thomas Andrew and Lillian Mae (Johnson) St. Rose. On February 16, 1980, she married her longtime love, Alton Ray Smith in Baltimore, Maryland after courting for 7 years. Geneva received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPS), completing her education and receiving her diploma from Dunbar High School. In addition, she received accolades as a phlebotomist at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and received her certification as a Nurse’s Aid at Baltimore City Hospital. She was employed with BCPS for over 30 years before retirement, returning contractually twice. Throughout her career, she worked at various schools and was recognized for her hard work and dedication, receiving many awards. She enjoyed working, and during her tenure, she met many friends who she continued to stay in contact with for years after retiring. Geneva lived a vibrant and active life. After retirement, she spent more time traveling with close family and friends and socializing. She had a keen ability to find long lost friends. Most importantly, she cherished her family and true friends, always putting them first. Geneva was a “lifeline” in making connections. She also appeared as an extra cast member in several episodes of Homicide: Life on the Streets (filmed in Baltimore, Maryland), beginning in 1997, which she thoroughly enjoyed. On many occasions, she was called to assist with events for guidance and input. She is remembered and cherished for hosting the best holiday dinners in the smallest place, before moving in 2016, where she continued these traditions with her family and friends. Later in life, Geneva enjoyed bus trips to casinos, crab feasts, and she was known for making festive foods and drinks, her specialty being holiday eggnog. She was preceded in passing by her mother Lillian, father Thomas, and brother George. Geneva is survived by her husband, Alton Ray; three children, Sheila (Richard deceased), Wanda (Channing) and Terrence Sr. (Cherie); six grandchildren, Nicole (Derrick), Terrence Jr., TeChera, Kahtya, Chanel and Isaiah; great-grandson, Karder; her sister, Lorraine Tucker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, close relatives and friends.
