Floyd Lee Deloney

Floyd Lee Deloney, 72, of Washington, DC passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, with the love of his life, wife Dannah by his side. Born on October 17, 1953, in Oakland, California to his mother, Dorothy Wilson Deloney and father, Lenn C. Deloney. Floyd lived a life marked by integrity, always intellectually curious and had a deep dedication to his community. Floyd was named “Boy of the Year” at the Alameda County Luncheon for the San Leandro Boys Club in California. After graduation from Chico State University, Chico, CA, Floyd relocated to the Washington, DC area. Floyd was respected by his colleagues for his sharp mind and visionary leadership. Floyd successfully completed continuing education at Penn State University in Mine Cost Analysis and Control at Colorado School of Miners, He built a distinguished 42-year career in minerals and geology, budget and finance, and civil rights as Economist at United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service (USDA). As a Forest Service professional, Floyd has traveled all 50 states in the U.S. Floyd was a miner who traveled 3,000 feet below surface to mine minerals including gold. He worked with various organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), National Black Farmers Association, Black Executives Exchange Program (BEEP), The National Urban League, National Blacks in Government (BIG), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on the Economic Development Committee, Finance Committee, and bridged youth and young adults together as liaison between the U.S. Forest Service and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) for educational scholarship and internship opportunities. Floyd has received numerous awards and certifications such as: Certificate of Merit as Superior Economist, National Scout Jamboree, Boy Scouts of America, USDA Merit for Resources Reporting that resulted in national implementation, USDA Merit for Civil Rights, USDA Merit for Changing Roles for Men and Women Affirmative Action Program, USDA Office of Personnel Management LEGIS Fellows Program for improvement in the Executive and Legislative Branches of the Government, USDA Merit for help to show Tomorrow’s leaders how to care for National Forests with fun and responsibility, USDA Certificate of Merit in Management Policy, USDA Merit of Advanced Mineral Management, Colorado Western Executive Seminar Center Management Training Completion, USDA Certificate of Merit Minerals Management. Floyd and Dannah met at Bethel A.M.E. Church under Rev. Dr. Frank M. Reid, III on February 27, 1994, and they were married at the same church on August 7, 2004, by Pastor R. Kevin Brown, Sr., Pastor – Allen Chapel AME. Dannah and Floyd were inseparable and devoted to each other, when you saw one, you saw the other. To know Floyd was to love Floyd. Floyd was well-known for his calm demeanor, and he had a dry sense of funny, quick-witted humor. Floyd was also avid car classic enthusiast, was founder and president of The Pinnacle Group, LLC where he bought and sold auto parts. He had a gift of making anyone he came in contact with to feel warm and welcomed. He was a loving father and a proud grandfather. He is survived by Dannah, brother Lenn Deloney (Estelle), and a host of friends and relatives. Floyd’s legacy of leadership, compassion and unwavering dedication to others will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
