Barbara Oglesby-Pratt was born on April 2, 1942, to the late Eugene and Lillie-Jolly Oglesby Gaffney (Cherokee County), South Carolina. Barbara was one of five children. She departed this life on Sunday, June 30,2024. Barbara received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She graduated from Dunbar High School and attended the Community College of Baltimore (now Baltimore City Community College). She served in multiple jobs, but she spent most of her time as a homemaker and rearing her two children, Siaffah and Sengbi aka Victor and Elliott. Barabara loved to create custom designs to decorate for weddings, church musicals, and other events. Barbara always accepted God as her Savior. She gave her life to Christ in 1977 and was a devoted life-long member of Christian Life Church. She was a resolute soul winner for the Lord & she was given the nickname ‘John the Baptist’ by her sister Joyce. She would firmly yet sweetly yell out to other carloads of people “Repent! Repent!” as they rode along. Barbara was dedicated to serving the Lord as a member of the Maranatha Choir. She also created many of the costumes for Christmas and Easter musicals. In the 1990’s she loaned her talent to decorating the church for the Christmas season. The late Pastor J. Luther Carrol appointed Barbara to create the floral arrangement for the church. Barbara enjoyed family gatherings especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was very generous yet often different in her giving of gifts to the family. We never knew what crazy gift may come from her. She would even wrap such things as ground beef, a dozen eggs, or even a dustpan. Her craziness was certainly enjoyed and the laughter she brought to family events. Barbara is preceded in death by her son Victor Roy Siaffah Pratt and sister, Brenda Oglesby-Gilyard. Barbara leaves to mourn her devoted youngest son, Elliott Sengbi Pratt; three sisters: JoAnn Oglesby-Callaman, Joyce Oglesby, and Betty Oglesby; two granddaughters: Imani Hopkins and Kayln Pratt; four nephews: Melvin Callaman III, Brandon Jones, Neil Oglesby, and Brian Gilyard; two great-nephews: Marc Callaman and Ryan Callaman, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends especially her Christian Life family. Barbara's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May Barbara's memory live on in our hearts, and may we find solace in the cherished moments shared with her.
