Winston Wactor Jr.

We could begin the story of Winston with his birth to a loving mother, Ruth Brooks, and father, Winston Wactor, Sr., on September 26, 1951 and walk you through the phases of his life. He was raised in Cherry Hill by his “mama” and her second husband Charles along with his sister Regina, married twice and had four children. BUT, continuing down that path would be far too conventional and if you are reading this, you know that Winston was anything but conventional. Winston often operated at a seemingly fearless, break-neck speed, encouraging everyone he encountered to join him. And If you could hang on, you were in for the ride of your life. A doting, devoted son and brother, Winston was deeply committed to caring for his mother Ruth Brooks and his sister, Regina Whitlock. That same devotion extended to his many friends and family. His heart was just that big. He had the uncanny ability to inspire belief in the impossible and was a daredevil willing to try most anything. An athlete, an entrepreneur, a mechanic, a hunter, and fisherman, Winston was a Jack of all Trades. For many of us, it was like knowing a real life superhero. He was the man that could make sh*t happen. The man could fix anything, and if he couldn’t, he knew someone who not only could get it done, but would do it for him, without question. You see, Winston was something of a charmer. But, more importantly, he was a giver. If you were in his orbit and you were in need- and he had it to give, it was yours. His time, his talent, his energy, and his endless humor. Hard working, loving, funny, stubborn, creative, resourceful, and bossy. That was Winston. He was also sensitive. If you were allowed access to the guarded space that was his vulnerability, you glimpsed the depth of his feeling. Especially loss. Like many of us, saying goodbye to loved ones was never easy for him. He preferred to remember people as they were and not allow himself to dwell on the hole in his heart that loss of them left behind. And so that is how we will honor him. We will not dwell on the hole in our hearts that the loss of him has left behind. Instead, we will remember him as he was. Vibrating with a youthful spirit of adventure, camaraderie and love.
