Marques Lee McCormick

Marques Lee McCormick was born on June 18th, 1983 (Father's Day) at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore to George Lee McCormick (aka Rev Lee Michaels) and the late Linda Delly. Marques departed this life on Thursday, February 18th, 2021 after a lengthy illness. Marques from birth, brought great joy to his parents, family and friends. Known for being somewhat of a free spirit, he lived life his way without apologies. Marques was educated in the Baltimore school system. Among his many passions and entrepreneurial pursuits were selling DVD's & CD's, listening to his music, video games, raising animals, especially pit bulls, and food. It was not unusual to find Marques at any given moment down at Lexington Market eating his favorite seafood. During cookouts and family gatherings at his Aunt Vanessa's he would always try to eat up everything he could get his hands on, and she would have to get on him to save some for everyone else. Marques would swear you up and down that he could cook and would always brag about what culinary delights he was whipping up. At one point, his love for food inspired him to seriously consider pursuing training in a local culinary school. That dream eventually faded once he swathe tremendous financial commitment it would require, and his refusal to ask anyone for help. While living with his father, stepmother Eugenia and baby sister Kahla, he would at times be called on to babysit, on one occasion he put Kahla on "time out" and had her sit in a corner...he then went to sleep and forgot and left her in the corner for a long period of time. On another occasion he accompanied his father to t he national gospel music convention being held in Pittsburgh and found himself sitting at a table with Thomas Mikal Ford from the show "Martin", and was beaming like a kid in a candy story repeatedly asking his dad, "pops do you know who that is". He loved and liked up to his older brother Jamal, always frying to follow him around as little brothers normally do. But he eventually ended up becoming like a little brother to a whole lot of people including his cousins Charles and Mike. Everyone that met Marques grew fond of him because he at heart was a very likable person, and although he struggled with his own personal demons, he never lost sight of the importance of family. He became very entrepreneurial at an early age evidenced by how he figured out how to turn the love his Aunt Valarie had for him into profitable gain...charging her a dollar every time she would try to get a kiss fro him. In May of 2017. his life was almost lost because of a fatal bad decision,but miraculously he survived, however, his life would never be the same. But through it all he maintained the heart of a champion, never giving up on as he would say from time to time getting out of Genesis long term care, the facility he was confined to. Finally, that mission was accomplished on the evening of February 18th. Ironically, the last thing he did before his departure from this life was "getting his eat on", enjoying a final meal. Marques was loved by his family on both sides and leaves to mourn his departure from this life his father Rev Lee Michaels (who will miss him dearly), a stepmother Eugenia McCormick, 4 siblings Jamal, Kahla, Kevin and Jade. Four aunts and 2 uncles, Vanessa Hawkes, Viola and Johnnie Webb, Valarie Ferguson, Rita Delly Harrel and Marc Harrell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Marques was preceded in death by his mother Linda Delly
