From the moment she was born, the legacy of Lisa Weems Kennedy began. Always light years ahead of the pack, Lisa was quick with both questions AND answers. She took off like a rocker-skipped a grade in elementary school, earned amazing SAT scores, and wen of to college (the first time) at the age of 16. Attracted to life early on, Lisa perfected the art of engagement making and sharing a meal, bonding through music and the arts, crafting, or perhaps taking on something new as a challenge. Lead by her heart, her mind was always making connections. Sometimes those connections faltered, but she was resilient and constantly navigating those ebbs and flows in her life. But it was Lisa's caring, that triumphed all. When Lisa stumbled upon her profession as an ASL interpreter, her world significantly enlarged, and her life's purpose was then definitive. She studied hard, completing certifications and degrees along the journey. Lisa's freelance interpreting work took her across the globe, physically, and virtually, exposing her to infinite possibilities and lasting relationships. As with most anything, she poured her heart and soul into the deaf community-teaching, interpreting, mentoring, building educational programs, advising, collaborating, and partnering. Meeting, knowing, loving her husband, and life partner, Eric scaled Lisa's appreciation for relationships. In Eric, she found a best friend and sanctuary. While she reminded us to keep her in prayer, Lisa would also ask that we keep him in the conversation. Through Eric, her circle magnified. The heartfelt love that Lisa had for her family and friends was immeasurable. Time spent with the kids in the family or with her siblings was time most coveted. Her work on family genealogy was much like a full-time job. Some say Lisa's legacy, that her energy, creativity, brilliance, and unending love of her family makes her life's journey. Others remember her as being amazing, talented, and beautiful-most would agree. Just a few weeks before her passing, Lisa said of her epic work in Nigeria, "These are the most incredible moments; I am enjoying very much." So, we have no choice but to celebrate her professional milestones with pride and admiration; her happiest last moments. Living life, leading with heart in pursuit of eternal nourishment, with purpose, and intent. That's the legacy we honor and that's the legacy we remember. As Lisa would say, "Somebody should say a prayer."
