On Thursday, December 2, 2021, JUNE DAVIS SEDGWICK, after a long illness, departed this life for her spirit to find peace and much needed rest. June, the daughter of Everette and Ruth Graves, was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 25, 1939. June was the product of the Baltimore City Public School System. Yes, June was very proud to be a Douglass Duck. Like so many of her family members, June has been a long-time member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Baltimore, Maryland. During her formulative years June had a close relationship with her brothers, sisters, cousins and friends who all hailed either on or near the 400 block of West Biddle Street. The girls and boys alike enjoyed sports, dancing and each other. Her, along with her family and friends, also enjoyed taking short trips. It was a family and friend tradition to load up a couple buses and head to Coney Island every year. When age caught up with her and a few relatives, this venture turned into trips to Augusta, Georgia for family visits. As you can see close ties with family and friends was paramount in June’s life. Her first years of employment were working in the Medical Arts Building in downtown Baltimore. This was just for a short period of time until her Aunt Beverly Banks enticed her to apply for employment with the Social Security Administration. She did so, and enjoyed a long and fruitful career working for the Federal Government until retirement. Because of her adherence to the Golden Rule, “Do unto others, as you would have others do unto you,” June developed some long and meaningful relationships with a few of her co-workers. Some of these relationships still last until this day. June met and later married James Davis and from this union two daughters were born, Tina and Kim Davis. June’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss her dearly. Subsequently, June met and married Larry Sedgwick on February 14, 1976. Larry preceded June in death on October 12, 1996. June had two brothers Charles Johnson and Vernon Lee Graves who passed before her. She leaves to cherish her memory: two children, Tina Davis and Kim Davis; son-in-law, Isaac Roberts; two grandchildren Cherise and Patrice; great-grandson, Ryan; two great-granddaughters, Peyton and Journey; two sisters, Mary Chambers and Wanda Bryant; three brothers, Calvin J. Graves (Florence), Dennis Bryant and Kenneth Bryant; aunt, Blanche Pinkney; uncle, Harry Bradford; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
