Frances Sherlyn Hammond

On March 20, 1947, our Heavenly Father opened the windows of heaven and poured out a blessing. He sent an angel to bless the late Bernice Edith Boston and Charles Wesley Hayes with FRANCES SHERLYN BOSTON. She was born in Catonsville, MD. God suddenly called her from her earthly labor to her heavenly reward and ushered her into His glorious presence on July 23, 2024. Sherlyn, as she was affectionately called, received her early education in the Baltimore County Public School System, graduating from Catonsville High School. In 1972, she began working at The Rouse Company in Columbia, Maryland. After a layoff, she moved back to Catonsville (her hometown) and worked at the American Legion Post #263. In 1985, she began a 36-year career working for the State of Maryland, Department of General Services on Preston Street. In 2018, she retired from the Department of General Services at the Ellicott City Court House. She loved her DGS family. Her love for the Lord began at home at an early age. Sherlyn joined Grace A.M.E. Church as a child under the pastoral ministry of Rev. Oscar Christmas. She enjoyed singing with the Young Adult Choir under the tutelage of Mrs. Carol Hayes. Sherlyn was a Steward Board member and a Missionary at Grace. She loved the Lord and was not ashamed of it. Christ was the center of her life! Sherlyn wed Jack Hammond. She gave birth to four children, Curtis L. Hammond, who preceded her in death, Carol, Channon, and Benjamin. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday with her children. The fond memories of her cooking and baking pies will remain forever in their hearts. Sherlyn was a sociable person who loved to sing, dance, and engage with others, while she also had a love for reading. One of her favorite books was the Bible, of which her favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” It filled Sherlyn’s heart, encouraging others and helping them through whatever circumstances were occurring at that time. Sherlyn was preceded in death by her sisters, Ernestine Jones and Sylvia Boston, and brothers, Anthony Boston and Stefan Boston. Sherlyn also had one granddaughter who preceded her in death, Kortni Lynnae Wilkins (Channon). Sherlyn leaves to cherish her memory: her loving children, Carol, Channon, and Benjamin (Hope); grandchildren, Anthony ( Jessica), Kenneth (Brandon), Chadawn, Chabria, and Courtney; great-grandchildren, Daisy, Kimberly, Natalie, Alijah, Ian, Kareemah, Camryn, Cori, and soon to be born, Kamorah; three brothers, Fitzgerald Boston (Lucille), Cecil Boston (Sonja), and Jeremiah Boston; one uncle, Stanley Boston; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
