Elijah Washigton Jr

ELIJAH WASHINGTON JR., son of the late Elijah Washington Sr. and Mary Washington, was born on August 10, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland. Elijah departed this life on October 8, 2021. Elijah grew up in a large family of 18 children at the family home located on Biddle Street in east Baltimore City. He received his education through the Baltimore City Public School system graduating from Dunbar High School. He later received further educational training in machinery mechanics from the Catonsville Community College. Elijah fell in love with his childhood friend, the late Edna Mae Davis Gaston. From this union, two children were born one daughter Sharon and one son Reginald. Elijah and Edna reunited and joined in marriage in 1974 blending families. Elijah was the loving stepfather to Kathy, Jerome, Floyd, Jewerl, Stanley, and Walter. He was lovingly known as Granddad and was a devoted husband and family man. Elijah was employed with several companies throughout his lifetime at Sears, Dukeland Packing Company, Koppers Company, and the Kaydon Ring and Seal Inc. After retiring from Kaydon he worked part-time for the Afro American Newspaper in maintenance and security for 20 years. Elijah considered the Afro-American Newspaper his second home. He was loved, respected, and valued as an employee. Elijah was a member of Eastern United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the senior choir and the men’s group. He was considered a handyman always fixing things around the house. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, watching sports, and was willing to help others in need. In remembrance and celebration of his life, he leaves to mourn daughter, Sharon Washington; son, Reginald Washington; stepdaughter, Kathy Douglas; stepson, Stanley Gaston; siblings, Melvin, Albert, Leonard, Ruth, Doreatha, and Gloria, fourteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, daughters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Elijah was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Washington; siblings, Emma Lee, Cornelia, Helen, Dorothy, Mary, Richard, John, Robert, Rudolph, Alice, and Charlie; stepchildren, Jerome Gaston, Jewerl Gaston, Floyd Gaston and Walter Brawner Jr.; grandchildren, Danielle Parks, Dominique Allen, and great-grandchild Keenan Stanfield
