Teddy Smith

Teddy Smith, son of the late Annie Ridley and late Ernest Smith, was born on December 30, 1934, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was raised by his late stepfather Eustace Ridley and his mother. He departed this life on March 8, 2025, while briefly staying at Lorien Harmony Hall, an Assisted Living center located in Columbia, Maryland. On April 7, 1954, he was united in marriage to Thelma Wilson. From this union, six children were born: Tony Teddy, Sr., Thornton Terry, Sr., Thelma Patricia, Teresa Peggy, Tyrone, Sr., and Timothy, Sr. He was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952, where he earned his GED. During his career in the military, he traveled to Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, England and lived in numerous states with his family. He earned the rank of Technical Sergeant (TSgt). He retired in 1972 after 20 years of honorable service. After retirement, he briefly worked for the United States Postal Service for about two years at the same time working another job. He later retired from United Airlines in 1999 after 25 years. During his second career, he earned his Master Electrician License. In his spare time, he loved fixing cars, repairing small appliances, and made electrical home repairs while he ran his small business. He loved grocery shopping at the Commissary monthly and he visited several friends, family, and co-workers throughout his life. He also loved dancing, eating, dinner celebrations, telling stories, just having an all-around good time. He especially loved his family, all 94 children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. One of his favorite sayings were, “he had letters to write, places to go, and people to sue.” He loved life, and he did everything to live for his 90 years. Teddy was predeceased by his wife, Thelma Smith, his son, Tony Teddy, Sr., his granddaughter Nolita, his sister, Margaret McCray, his brother, John Ridley, and his oldest cousin George Roberts. He leaves to cherish his memory: son Thronton, daughter Thelma (Kevin), daughter Teresa, son Tyrone (Sandra), and son Timothy (Dorthea). Twenty-seven grandchildren including spouses and, forty-one great-grandchildren, and ten great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
