Mother Mazarene Rhodes Bond was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 23, 1944, to the late Deacon Robert Rhodes, Jr., and the late Reverend Elizabeth Mozon Rhodes. Mazarene went to glory on Monday, March 11, 2024, after a brief illness. Mazarene was educated in the Baltimore City Public School system where she graduated from Frederick Douglass High School. She continued her education at Cortez Peters and she graduated from the Community the Community College of Baltimore with an Associates Degree. Mother Bond was dedicated to lifelong learning and was highly decorated member of the Gavel Club, a subsidiary of Toastmasters International. She advocated for mental health awareness by volunteering as a Support Group Facilitator with the National Associationon Mental Illness (NAMI). Mother Bond was a founding member of Holy Temple Pentecostal Church in 1952. She gave her to Christ as a child and a saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. She developed and used her leadership skills as a Sunday School teacher, a youth counselor, National President of the Young People's Union, President of the Usher Board, musical director of several choirs and National Mother of the Elevation Christian Network. At the tender age of 8, she began taking piano lessons. For more than 60 years, Mother Bond was our church organist and served pro bono for many missions and churches with which we associated. Church was always the center of Mother Bond's life. It was at church that she met the love of her life. Deacon Clarence Bond. They have been happily married for almost 50 years. Clarence stood by her side until the very end. He made it a mission to love his wife, Mazarene, as Christ loves the church. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Kathleen and Clarrissa. Mazarene began her employment career at Lutheran Hospital, went on to work for the City of Baltimore. She was also a substitute teacher. She retired form the federal government after 28 years. Mazarene wrote lyrics and orchestrated the music for several songs for our church. She sponsored Bible bowls, quizzes, and plays for all occasions. One of her favorite songs was "All in His Hands and her favorite bible verse was Psalm 51:7: "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean... Mazarene loved to travel. She was blessed to go to exotic locations: Hawaii, Cananda, Mexico, the Bahamas, and Aruba. A special thank you is extended to her granddaughter, Tanera Parker, who cared for Mother Bond and Deacon Bond during her illness. Mother Bond leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Clarence Bond, daughters, Kathleen Bond and Clarrisa Collins; sisters, Janice Blackwell (Lawrence) and Roberta Miller (Rudy); niece Elizabeth M. Scott (William), nephews Jonathan Davis (Regina) and Antonio Gasque; mother - in - Law, Annie Bond; two godchildren Erwin Acree and Christy Scott, and a host other family members and friends.
