Tributes

Willie A. Fleming, Sr., affectionately called Willie, was born to the late Sophia Fleming on December 25, 1924. He was raised by his mother and his late grandfather, Hubert Fleming. He was called home on September 10, 2021. After 96 years of life Willie fulfilled the purpose God had placed in him and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ sent a flock of angels to escort the spirit of our loved one home to glory, with his wife Helen Irene Fleming. Willie received his education in Ayden North Carolina. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Helen Irene Fleming on December 12, 1945. This union was blessed with five children, loving children. He joined the United States Armed forces October 1, 1945, and discharged with honor June 27, 1949. After his military service Willie was employed with multiple jobs but his longevity employment was with Baltimore County where he retired in 1986. He was a devoted member of the Friendship Baptist Church family where he served on the Usher Board for 20 years until his health begin to fail. Willie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a brother, uncle, father-in-law, and friend to everyone he met. Willie touched many lives. He opened his heart and home to many. Willie departed this life on Friday, September 10, 2021, at 10:10 am, after a lengthy illness. Preceding him in death were his wife, Helen Irene Fleming, daughter Helen Beatrice Nolan; his mother Sophia Fleming, his brother James Fleming; and oldest granddaughter, Carolyn Ellis, and grandsons Brandon Fleming and Joseph Ellis; son-in-law Joseph C. Nolan; Two brothers-in-law Raymond and Walter Opher; and his special Aunt Olivia. Willie treasured memories will be left to his sons, Willie A. Fleming Jr., Brunzo E. Fleming, Tyrone Fleming, and daughter, Rhonda Scott; two daughters-in-law, Edna Fleming and Tawanda Fleming; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Garrison, and Carlotta Opher; one son-in-law, Errol H. Scott; twelve grandchildren, Pearl Melton, Junie Nolan, Jenise Fleming, Tyrone Fleming, Jr., Keith Fleming, Summer Fleming, Danielle Parker, Stephanie January Camphor, Ato Scott, Sekou Scott, Tyrell Fleming, and Terrell Fleming; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and thousands of friends. Three special friends Robert P. Anderson, Gary Phelps, and the late Elizabeth Banister; two special nieces, Tonya Fleming, and Diane Williams; two special cousins Deneen and Veneatha of North Carolina.
