Walter J. Boyd

Walter James Boyd was the son of the late Isaiah Jr. and Annie Mae Boyd. He departed from this earthly life on May 18, 2020. He passed away after a sudden illness at the Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Maryland. Walter was born on August 13, 1939, in White Oak County, South Carolina. He was the 4th oldest of 11 siblings. Two siblings Willie Z. and Roosevelt preceded him in death. He grew up in Roxboro, NC. He received his formal education in Person County School System. He received Christ at an early age, and became a member of the Shady Hill Baptist Church following baptism. His early years of employment involved farming and cutting plywood. Once moving to Baltimore he was employed By Domino Sugar Company, from there he retired after over 25 years of service. Walter married the late Josephine Canada in 1959. From this union 4 children were born. Three of those children, Walter Ray, Tonjo Lynn , and Jacqueline preceded them in death. Two grandchild, Shawnda and Terrence also preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by 2 other wives Carrie Price, and Genivieve Geltrude. Walter was a member of Eastern United Methodist Church in Baltimore, MD. While there he enjoyed worshipping and working with the Tuesday soup kitchen. He also was a faithful charter member of Beacon of Truth Church and Ministries in Baltimore, MD. He was responsible for ringing the bell to ensure that service would start on time. Walter was affectionately known as “Pops”. He had an intense love for his family. One of his biggest highlights was receiving visits from his siblings from North Carolina while in the rehab center. Pops was known for his amazing strength and strong work ethic. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, carpentry, bowling, and the motorcycle club. Even as a child he took it upon his self to build his younger siblings a playground. Walter was injured in a life altering fall in December, 2015. It then hindered him from doing a lot of the things he liked to do. Despite this incident his spirit was upbeat, and he rarely complained. The nursing staff spoke of him always being positive and upbeat unless you went too far!(LOL) While in Rehab, Walter loved the Boyd/Simpson meals on wheels. His favorite was the weekly Popeyes Red Beans and Rice. He absolutely loved being pampered with his nails by daughter in law, Janet; feet by sister, Alice; and haircut/trim by son, Robert. Walter leaves to mourn and cherish his memory : his beloved siblings; Terry Boyd(Lucy), Dorothy Gentry, Ida Greene, Lula Cunningham, Alice Simpson, Hattie Pimpong(Harry),Velma Lawson (Mitchell), and Deborah Daniels(Charlie); son, Robert James Boyd(Janet), daughter Vivian Mills; Daughter In-law Samantha Boyd; stepchildren,Denise Arrington and Genise Geltrude; grandchildren, Venetia, Rico, Chris, Antwan, Tameka, Emanuel, Vivian, Jonathan, Joseph, Tiffany, Danielle, Kevin, Stevie, Garian, and Janae;10-great grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Walter”Pops” Boyd will truly be missed by many.
