Tributes

Rudolph Harrell, the eldest of two children, entered peaceful rest on Sunday, August 23, 2020. He was born on June 28, 1951 in Lake County, Florida to the late Jerry Harrell and Olivia (Libby) Sheppard. At a very early age the family relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rudy, as he was affectionately known was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. He later received his GED and in due time graduated from the School of Hard Knocks. Even as a child Rudy insisted on doing everything on his own terms. In his early teens he ran away from home and into the loving arms of the McLaughlin Family. His brotherhood with Bradford McLaughlin forged an immediate kinship; the late Rebecca McLaughlin (aka Momma) fell in love with the troubled teen, and the rest is history! In fact, “Momma” is the one who started calling him Rudy Mack, because he was now a McLaughlin. Rudy Mack married his childhood sweetheart Brenda, and from this union four children were born: Manie, Ikkie, Resee and BJ. He loved his family and together they shared two children, Ke-Ke and Me-Me. In the late 70’s, Rudy converted to Islam and took the name Mustafa meaning the “The Chosen One”. Rudy was a very popular guy who was always well respected. If street cred had a value, he would be rich! He had an infectious smile with a personality to match. He loved to dance, he was a self-proclaimed singer, he loved to dress, he was a barber by trade and he truly had the gift of gab. He could always be heard reminiscing and telling a story about the good ole days. Through his many trials and tribulations, he always seemed to bounce back! He always kept in touch with everyone and he never ever forgot a birthday. He will be missed beyond measure, but he will never be forgotten. Take your rest “OG”. He was preceded in death by his brother, Malcolm McLaughlin. Rudy leaves to cherish his precious memory; children, Rudy Harrell (Tonya), Ikkeia Torry (Robert), Toree Davis (Scoop), Shaketa Harrell, Jhimeia Harrell, Brenae Carter, Shaquil Harrell and Dominique Morton; brothers Eldra Harrell, Al McLaughlin, Jack McLaughlin (Dorothea), Melvin McLaughlin (Joyce), and Bradford McLaughlin; sisters JoAnn Jones, Barbara Barnes (Frank), Diane Devero and Lorraine McLaughlin; sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grand-children and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
