Ophelia L. Carter

Born on March 31, 1941, in Baltimore Maryland, to the late George Washington Conway Sr. and Marha Anne Conway. She departed this life on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from a severe stroke at home in Howard County surrounded by family. Ophelia grew up in a large family with five brother and two sisters. She quickly adopted the mindset that FAMILY means "Putting your arms around each other and being there." She received formal education in the Baltimore City Public School system. Since her childhood, Ophelia enjoyed family gatherings and seeking different restaurants to eat. She would often take her family and friends go-karting, to amusement parks, and many other activities. She also enjoyed visiting extended family who lived out of state. For many years, she hosted numerous family gatherings; passing this tradition onto her children and grandchildren, which continues to this day. She and her husband Ransom became entrepreneurs and had several businesses before retiring. She enjoyed being the owner of Club OR Lounge and Restaurant, and a landlord of several residential properties throughout Baltimore city. However, her passion was her Travelers Tours and Transportation business that thrived for several decades and employed both family and new hires who eventually because friends of the family and new hires who eventually became friends of the family. Ophelia love traveling, bowling and cooking. One of her master dishes was her infamous vegetable lasagna. She possessed an incredible patience, and always made time to help others, which allowed her to meet people in all walks of life creating lasting friendships. She was well liked by everyone due to her charisma, as well as her positive energy. Ophelia was the last surviving member of her siblings. As she settled into retirement and her eye sight diminished, she enjoyed her conversations and visits with her family. She imparted wisdom to all her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former employees and customers. She always provided you with insight and laughter to lift your spirit. She also found much pleasure in listening to her audio books. Ophelia is survived and greatly missed by her loving children, Kevin (Andrea), Delena (Gregory), Donnetta (James), Kenyatta (Margaret), and N'Namdi (Theresa). To continue her legacy, are 18 grandchildren, LaKesha, Nathanial, Jasmyne, Abiana (Anthony), Bakhari, Zameria, Carlisle, Deonna, Cabriea, Kevin Jr, Zakiya (Quinten), De'Ja, De'Man, Ariell, Giara, Jaden, Josiah, and Julian. Forever cherished and remembered by her 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Ophelia was preceded in death by her husband Ransom; daughter, Gwendolyn, sons, Quentin, Shahid and Ronald; and siblings James, Randolph, Dorothy. George, Harry, Hazel, Otis, and Albert.
