Her Story Lois D. Knight Harrison was born on March 8 ,1965 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Reginald Oscar Knight and Bettie Jean Tate Knight. She was the youngest of four children. At a very early age, Lois gave her life to Christ at First Christian Community Baptist Church in the Grove Park area of Baltimore, MD. During her formative years, she sang in the choir, attended vacation Bible School, and served on the Usher Board. Not surprisingly, Lois was always in church with her mother and the rest of the family. In addition, Lois was also a member of the Humphrey Choral Ensemble and was especially active in the church when Reverend Ernest Humphrey was the pastor. “Nisa,” as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools, graduating from Carver Vocational-Technical High School in 1983. She matriculated to the Community College of Baltimore, earning a degree in Executive Secretarial Science. It was here, at the Community College Of Baltimore, that Nisa met the love of her life, Craig Patrick Harrison. It was also here that they both played basketball for CCB. Both she and Craig had a passion for the sport of basketball. Craig supported Nisa in every aspect of their friendship and relationship for many years. On August 28,1998 the two joined in holy matrimony for a combined dating and marriage of 38 loving years, to continue that ongoing relationship and friendship. From 1987 until 1990, Lois attended Coppin State College (University), earning a degree in Management Science. While at Coppin, Lois joined the Coppin Dancers where she demonstrated tremendous artistic talent as a principal dancer and choreographer. Lois was a member of the Coppin Eagles Women’s Basketball, Badminton, and Volleyball teams. Not yet done with her education, in 2005, Lois returned to school in pursuit of a graduate degree. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix in 2007. At the time of her passing, Lois was working for the Baltimore City Department of Finance in the Bureau of Accounting and Payroll Services. An accounting systems analyst, Lois was a faithful and dedicated worker, aiding others whenever help was needed. She also assisted with Baltimore City’s Combined Charities events and helped to plan office or holiday events for the Bureau. Prior to working for Baltimore City, Lois worked for Transamerica Life Insurance/Monumental Life Insurance Company in Baltimore, a job she began while still a student at Coppin State College (University). Willingly, Lois dedicated decades of her life to these companies. Family was extremely important to Lois. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. She always hosted holiday dinners at her home and in her spare time, she was also a wedding coordinator. Lois enjoyed traveling, roller-skating with her skate partner-Lorna, dancing, strolling. She especially enjoyed watching Court TV or suspense movies. She loved to spend time with her husband, siblings, niece Ninna, great nephew Ny’lin, , as well as her godchildren, Christopher Hall Jr. and Chelsi Scott. She loved serving Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. In 1987, Nisa became a member of the Epsilon Kappa Chapter (Coppin State College) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and began a lifetime of PEARLific service to her beloved sorority. Her line sisters, Angela Burnett, Kathy Mahabir, and Marguerite Marshall were considered family. As an undergraduate, Lois served in several positions and led Epsilon Kappa in rendering service to the community. She would often be seen on the campus, head held high and sporting her pink and green. She was a Silver Star and Life Member of the organization. Upon graduation from Coppin, she became a member of Epsilon Omega, the oldest graduate chapter in the North Atlantic Region of the sorority. During her 32 years of service to Epsilon Omega, Lois passionately served the chapter in numerous roles. She was Anti-Basileus of Operations from 2008 – 2012 and Graduate Advisor to Alpha Delta Chapter from 1999-2004. Lois earned several awards as an adult. They are almost too numerous to include. Known for her commitment and passion for all things Alpha Kappa Alpha, Lois could be counted upon to mentor, work with others, and to get the job done – no matter the task. She received the Edna Over Campbell Second Mile Award in 2005 and the Vivian Cook Johnson Award in 2020. She also received the chapter’s Environmental Ownership Award. Lois served as the President of Epsilon Omega, the Anti-Basileus of Program from 2017 – 2020, Graduate Advisor to Alpha Delta Chapter from 2018-2020, Graduate Advisor to Xi Tau Chapter from 2005-2016, and Anti-Pecunious Grammateus in 2015. Lois’ commitment to service was not limited to her roles in Epsilon Omega; she also served the sorority at the regional level. In 2017, she was appointed Chairman of the Public Meeting program during the 86th North Atlantic Regional Conference in Baltimore. Most recently, she was appointed as the Chairman of the Ivy Beyond the Wall ceremony for the 91st North Atlantic Regional Conference scheduled to take place in Baltimore in April. Whether locally, regionally, or nationally, Lois’ commitment to service was indeed supreme and reflected a life well-lived. Lois departed this life Sunday, March 13, 2022. Her family and friends take comfort in knowing that while absent from the body, Lois is present with the Lord. She leaves to cherish in memory, her loving and devoted husband, Craig Patrick Harrison, sister Lavonne Anderson (Henry) , brother, Kenneth L. Tate, sister, Dinna M. Knight niece, Ninna Griffin, Helen Anderson, nephews, Robert Anderson, Eric Anderson, great nephew Ny’lin; mother and father – law (who preceded her in death), James and Betty Harrison; six brothers-in-law, Michael Harrison (Cynthia), Vandell Harrison, Rodney Harrison (Marsheila), Jeffrey Harrison, Tony Harrison (Stephanie), and Benaiah (Selah) Harrison; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Dickerson, Sylvia Clinton (Kenneth), and Karen Barbee; godchildren, Christopher Dodd and Chelsi Scott,; adopted sister, Barbara Royster; god-sister, Lorraine Wright; special friends, her AKA Sorority family of Epsilon Omega chapter; the entire AKA Sorority and a host of other friends and family members.
