Lillian Diane Mills, affectionately known to family as Diane, eldest daughter to Hedy R. Johnson and the late Alvin Johnson Sr., was born on September 25, 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on September 22, 2019 after a short illness. She received her education from Baltimore City public schools,graduating from Dunbar High School in 1967. Later she met Lawrence Rose and they married in 1970. Two daughters came from this union. Lillian worked for the State of Maryland in the Department of Labor, License, and Regulation, in unemployment claims. She was a talented seamstress, sewing many of her own clothes as well as prom dresses for her daughters and their friends. In 1991 she met Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, Dennis D. Mills. They relocated to Memphis Tennessee and married in 1999. After more than a decade in the southern state, Lillian and Dennis retired and settled in Magnolia, Delaware, hosting many Christmases, All-girl’s weekends, and summer barbeques. She was very family oriented, spoiling her two girls, nieces and nephews but most especially the love of her life, her one and only grandbaby. She never met a stranger, sparking conversations with random people in the grocery store or on the street. She treated her daughters’ friends as if they were her own flesh and blood. An avid cruiser, she has traveled to nearly every island in the Caribbean. She was an amazing cook, caring for her husband with fantastic meals, cakes, pies and her cornbread dressing. You always knew where you stood with Lillian (Diane). She did not mince words with her siblings nor neglect to inform them who was in charge. She leaves to mourn: her mother, Hedy R. Johnson; husband, Dennis D. Mills; two daughters, Anissa C. Rose and Karen D. Rose; one granddaughter, Maya R. Rose; one brother, Benjamin Johnson; three sisters, Darlene Robertson, Yasmin Stokes, and Laurie Cooper; one brother-in-law, Jordan Robertson; one sister-in-law, Monacrystal Johnson; two uncles, Lewis Horne and Bernard Horne; three aunts, Evelyn Mitchell, Beulah Horne, and Joyce Horne, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
