John Edward Glenn

JOHN EDWARD GLENN was a deeply cherished Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother (in the Spirit), Friend, and True Man Of God. On Saturday, July 19, 2025, the Lord called him home as he peacefully transitioned at Gilchrist Hospice. The only child of Mr. Clyde and Mrs. Elizabeth Glenn, John grew up in Washington D.C. He attended school in the Washington D.C. School System, after which he attended college at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). While working as a Telecom contractor, he met Ms. Yudith Moore. They fell in love and were married on August 17, 2008. Their marriage created a new family that would withstand the test of time. John gave his life to the Lord on New Year’s Eve 2007. Papa John, as he was affectionately known, became an important member of his church, To God Be The Glory Church Of Worship International, until God called him Home. He acted as the Vice-President of My Brothers Keeper Men’s Ministry. He was a faithful member of the Usher Ministry for Eighteen Years. Papa John was a competitive team swimmer and an amazing pool player. He knew a zillion random facts and was brilliant. He was one of the Three Old Dudes, which included Bishop Dr. Gregory Gilmore, Sr., himself, and Bro. Charles Adams. He was a loving and caring dad and was never too tired to make his grandkids a fresh lemonade and a snack. He prayed every single Sunday at church for his wife, cooked beautiful meals, and he made sure Momma Yudi’s manicures and pedicures were always on point. Papa John was the best because he never gave up on God, he never gave up on Momma Yudi, and he always treated everyone with gentle respect. He loved the family that God gave him through marriage, loved a good laugh, and had a dry humor. His favorite saying was, “Oh Yeah.” He was the King of One-Liners. He was so smooth. Mama Yudy always said, John is so cool! She loved his green eyes. He loved family dinners and holidays. John Edward Glenn is survived by his two daughters, Pastor Melissa MooreGilmore (Pastor Gregory, Jr.) and Sis. Stacey Varr (Rev. Dr. Darlingston, Ph.D.); four grandchildren, Gregory Gilmore III, Ayden Varr, Ava-Marie Varr, and Graceson Gilmore; grandmother-in-law, Clarita Chase; siblings-in-law, Zilla Thomas, Gary Guerrero, Sherry Chase-Jackson and Hayden Guerrero (Nikiesha); and sisters-of-the-heart, Dr. Jacqueline Richards, MD, and Chief Apostle Dr. Deborah O. Gilmore, Ph.D. (Bishop Dr. Gregory Sr.); best friends, Bro. Charles and Evang. Robin Adams. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, church family and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Edna Page Glenn, father, Clyde Glenn; granddaughter, Mercy Annabell Celina Gilmore; mother-in-law, Celina Guerrero, father-in-law, Oliver Chase; stepfather-in-law, Stephen Guerrero; grandmother-in-law, Irene Thomas; step-grandmother-in-law, Carolina Diaz; and brothers-in-law, Conrad and Derek. Last, but not least, he is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Yudith Moore-Glenn (“Mama Yudy”) only a month ago. Their love was truly a 1 Corinthians 13: 113 types of love, and they lived their vows Till Death Do Us Part. Both of them left this world worshipping and serving the Lord until their very last breath. To God Be The Glory.
