Jervonda Lashawn Hines

Jervonda LaShawn Hines (affectionately called “Tutta”) was born on February 21, 1975, to Jerome and Mattie Hines (nee’ Nelson) in Baltimore, MD. She was called home to her Lord and Savior at the age of 45. Jervonda was a happy child, who from an early age showed that she genuinely cared about others. When she was 17 years old Jervonda began to provide care for her grandmother and discovered she enjoyed taking care of others. As a teen she enjoyed doing hair, dancing, and hanging out with her friends Angie, Davina, and Tascha. As Jervonda got older she developed a love for cooking. Jervonda attended Owings Mills High School, while there she participated in a dual track program. When she graduated in 1993, she not only received her high diploma, but also, she received her certified nursing credentials from Western School of Technology and Environmental Science. This pursuit of education led Jervonda to a rewarding 20 years in the nursing profession at Maryland General Hospital and John Hopkins Hospital. As an employee Jervonda was hard-working, well respected by her co-workers, well-liked by her colleagues, and the patients. In 2006 she gave birth to her only child, Akei’leus Jerome Burston (affectionately known as A.J.); they were inseparable. When A.J. was an infant, she called him “my little baby”, a name which she continued to call him even when he grew older. Jervonda was a very devoted mother, who cared for her friends, and family members’ children as if they were her own. This was not surprising because Jervonda had a heart full of love for her family and friends. From a young age Jervonda played an integral role in assisting her father in managing his apparel business. The Hines family was well-known for having spectacular events, in which Jervonda was always front and center providing exquisite cuisine… which the guests truly loved. In her early 40s Jervonda began to experience major health issues which led to her ending her nursing career. In spite of her challenges, Jervonda was still willing to aid and encourage all those around her. Jervonda is survived by her parents Mattie and Jerome Hines; only child Akei’leus, and his father Alvin Burston, four sisters Jernita Hines, Cherome Hines, Tavonda Hines, Dionne Coleman; one brother Rahman (Rock) Omar; three aunts Vallre Nelson, Marguarite Hill, Barbara Lewis; three uncles Larry Hines, Cornell Hines, Elie Nelson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
