James Elton Williams

JAMES ELTON WILLIAMS, son of Claudia Williams and Cursey Alexander, was born May 4, 1936 in Edenton, NC. He was called home November 2, 2021 after a lengthy illness to join his siblings Cora Homes, Bertha Shaw and Alethia Williams. In his younger days his friends gave him the nickname “Club” which many of them still refer to him as. James didn’t like to speak bad about anything. He wanted to be positive with himself and everyone else. This may have been due to the teaching he received while attending Canaan Temple Church and Sunday School. It was also there where he received salvation and his love for his Savior. James received his education from D.F. Walker High School in 1955. He worked numerous odd jobs and served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany before gaining employment with The Baltimore Gas and Electric Company from which he retired after 43 years. In 1975 he met Christine Young. James who loved to eat and Christine who loved to cook dated 2 years before getting married in 1977. She remained by his side for 44 years. She was his pride and joy. Puddin and Suga, as they lovingly referred to each other as; shared a wonderful life enjoying traveling, bowling, taking long drives and staying active at the local Senior Center. They also took pleasure in serving the Lord at The Fellowship of Jesus Associates and at One God One Thought Center for Better Living. It can not go without saying that for anyone that knew him also knew that James was determined in his way of thinking and loved to talk which is why he made numerous friends wherever he went and will sincerely be missed by everyone who knew him. He was always a friend and a devoted family man who loved the Lord and sang his praises in several churches and choirs. Obituary James leaves behind to cherish his memory: his wife, Christine Williams; two sons, Eric L. Pittman and Keith Q. Young; two daughters-in-law, Rita Pittman and Brenda Young; three grandchildren, Erica L. Pittman, Rachael M. Pittman and Sean G. Pittman; a great-granddaughter, Zaira N. Pittman-Rapski; two brothers, John L. Williams (Yvonne) and Robert E. Williams; sister, Ethel Newby; and a host of nieces, nephews as well as other relatives and devoted friends too numerous to mention for fear of leaving someone out.
