Tributes

On Sunday, March 15, 2020, the Lord put his arms around Doris Brown, softly called her name, and lifted her home to rest. He knew she was in pain and the road was getting rough, so he closed her weary eyes. Her race is won and the victory is now hers in Christ Jesus. Doris, the daughter of the late Oliver and Clara Anderson was one of eleven children. She began the promise of life on August 28, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. Doris married Joseph Harris at a young age and from this union Antonio and Jacquelyn were born. She later married the late Clarence Brown and from this union, Donna was born. Together Doris and Clarence raised three children. Doris started her Christian Journey at a very early age, professing Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and later rededicating her life to Christ. Doris attended Baltimore City Public Schools and furthered her education in College. She went on to have a successful career in the field of Human Resources with the federal government for thirty years before retiring. Doris also volunteered and spoke at events for non-profit organizations such as “The Young Women’s League Inc.” and “Toastmasters International” where she was known to flaunt her love of hats. Doris loved life. She loved shopping, decorating, reading, and games of chance. Doris could shop for hours for items to decorate her home and to expand her prized collection of elephants and hats. She loved elephants and hats of all styles, but the more elaborate the hat the better. She was also an avid gamester. She enjoyed attending and hosting house gatherings while playing games such as Monopoly, Dominoes, and Five thousand; but her favorites were Blackjack, Tunk, Poker, and Pinochle and of course Bingo. She frequently played games with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews for hours. She would often travel to casinos near and far to participate in poker tournaments. Doris will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and love for others. She loved spending time with family and friends. She often shared words of encouragement with her nieces, nephews, or anyone who needed it. Doris frequently opened her home to family members and friends and her home was often a place for sleepovers. Doris truly lived her life to the fullest. Spending time with family and friends, traveling, and sharing the word of God is what she enjoyed. Doris leaves to cherish her loving memory and to rejoice her triumphant entry into another life her three children, Antonio, Jacquelyn, and Donna; one grandchild, Dana; one great-grandchild, Dylan; her sisters, Clarice and Barbara; and a host of nieces and nephews.
