Derrick Anell Johnson, son of the late Dorothy Mae Cloud Johnson and Robert Johnson was born February 26, 1956, in Baltimore, MD. After an extended illness he departed this life on May 15, 2024, at Northside Hospital St. Petersburg, Florida with his loving wife Jacqueline by his side. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and received an Associate of Arts degree -Physical Therapy Assistant Program in 1977 from the Community College of Baltimore, Maryland. Derrick graduated from Sunstate Academy in Licensed Massage Therapy Program with a National Certification in 2009. Derrick fondly known as “Derrkie”, was a kind and caring master artist, physical therapist assistant and massage therapist. His love for drawing and creating new projects was maturing and his love of handwork led to the creation of Stankin Studio. Stankin Studio is a collection of abstract hand-crafted sculptures, home accents, wearable art and funkiture. Derrick’s artwork has been displayed at Baltimore venues including Artscape, Sugarloaf, Columbia Art Festival, and various farmers markets. His work has been featured at the Tomlinson collections, Art D’objects, Zyzyx, Repetez and Mud and Metal. His odyssey continued in Florida at the Saturday Morning Market, SunTan Art Center, Passe de Grill, Gulfport Art markets, Corey Avenue Art Walk, Madera Beach market, Leeper Radner with additional artwork at Domain Gallery in Gulfport. Derrick’s art is a visual cornucopia of innovation, optical illusions, and iridescent illustrations. All fueled by a perpetual river of funk that ran through his imagination and caused a cataclysmic implosion of creativity. Derrick’s gregarious and outgoing personality was evident with each interaction and personal encounter. He was charismatic and caring. He possessed a unique sense of humor and genuine love for all people. He enjoyed music, swimming, singing, reading, movies, the beach, dancing and roller skating. Derrick leaves behind to treasure his memories his loving and devoted wife Jacqueline, a brother Reginald, a sister Valencia, daughters, Kelli, Loren and Laila, two grandsons Blake and Carter, numerous cousins, other relatives and friends. Derrick will also be missed by his longtime friend and business partner Renard Damon.
