Annette Johnson

Annette Johnson, affectionately known as "Mommy" by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, peacefully departed this life on Monday, June 19, 2023. She was born on Tuesday, June 15, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Walther John Joseph and Minnie Lee Joseph. Annette received her formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System. On Sunday, February 17, 1963, she married the late Lawrence Johnson Sr., and together they were blessed with six children. Annette's spiritual journey began at an early age when she was baptized. She was a dedicated member of Homestead United Methodist Church, where she lent her voice to the Angelic Voices choir. She later joined the Bible Revival Holiness Church and served in several ministries, including the Usher Board and Community Outreach. Devoted to her faith, Annette diligently read her Bible every day and could often be found singing along to her favorite gospel song, "Stand" by Donnie McClurkin. One of her most cherished scriptures was Psalm 27, which reminded her that the Lord was her light, salvation, and strength. On other days, you could find Annette enjoying the melodic tunes of her favorite singer, Lionel Richie, or engaging in activities such as cooking, shopping, or even a day at the casino. However, Annette was best known for her care of her grandchildren. In her own unique way, she formed a special bond with each of them. Annette leaves behind a cherished legacy. She is survived by her four daughters, Janice Johnson, Rhonda Johnson, Valerie Wallace, and Roslyn Johnson, and her two sons, Lawrence Johnson Jr. and Michael Johnson Sr. And one daughter-in-law, Sheila Johnson. Her memory is also treasured by her twenty-four grandchildren: Nicole Hatcher (Eric Hatcher), Janika Barton-Dickens (Frederico Dickens Jr.), Anissa Johnson, Reginald Sullivan Jr., Isaiah Sullivan, La'Toria Annette Johnson-Richardson (Curtis Richardson), Lawrence Johnson III, Justin Johnson, Antwon Samuels, Terrian Samuels, Kenyonna Samuels, Vonzell Groom, Corey Groom, Tyrone Wallace, Brandon Wallace, Jordan Rogers, Sydney Goodwater, Shantrice Fenner, Nya Johnson, Michael Johnson Jr., K'shiya Hines, Najiya Hines, Makeon Hines (preceded in death), and Micah Johnson. Additionally, she is survived by thirty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Annette's devoted sister and best friend, Marie Robertson, will forever hold her in her heart. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Mable Savage and Margarete Smith, and her brother-in-laws, Charles Johnson Sr. and Vernon Johnson. Annette's presence will be greatly missed. But her love and memory will live on through all who were blessed to know her.
