Amos Brooks

On January 30, 1964, Amos 0. Brooks made his debut to the world in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. He was lovingly known as "Noonie" to his family and friends, but later gained the name of "Big Daddy". His family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where he lived and played with family and friends on the Alameda. At the age of twelve, the family relocated to Salisbury, Maryland where he continued his secondary education. He worked in numerous occupations, gaining a variety of skills that led him to his career as an electrician, which he loved and spent the last fifteen years with Hirsch Electric. Throughout his journey of life, Amos experienced difficulties, trials, and triumphs. Due to his tenacity for life and desire to succeed, he could accurately be described as the epidemy of the "comeback kid." Of the many remarkable moments in his life, the highlight was most certainly the birth of his son Da'Ante. Amos moved to Norfolk, Virginia in 1995 and embraced the opportunity to experience new adventures, make new friends and continue to grow as a person. His job eventually transferred him to Baltimore, Maryland in 1999, where he settled and his life legacy continued. As fate would have it, he met and fell in love with Valerie Brice, and they were married on December 30, 2007. They shared an everlasting love and were inseparable for fourteen years, which he became a fatherly "Big Buddy" to Valerie's son Michael. Amos and Valerie remained close friends until his death. Honestly, it was hard not to love Amos due to his ability to make anyone laugh with his jokes; he had a smile and annoying laugh that was absolutely contagious. He loved having a good time and you could always anticipate laughing when he was in the room. His favorite past time was playing pool and he was a very skillful player. If you had the opportunity to play with him, you experienced exquisite trash talking from "Big Daddy" and perhaps learned some pointers to improve your game. He also enjoyed dancing but was not a particularly good dancer: However, it was always a theatrical production when he danced, especially as he performed his signature move called "The Pony”. Many have tried to replicate this move, but no one could do it like Amos. Family and friends were especially important to Amos. He absolutely loved family gatherings during the holidays and summer barbeques. He was a self-proclaimed grill master, and he lived up to the title. He would give a monologue on how to slow cook ribs until they fall of the bones. But as he would say, it was the sauce that set it off. He was the life and the light of the party, and it is truly an understatement to say that his family will miss him. One May 28, 2023, the last chapter of Amos' life unexpectedly ended leaving his family and friends to cherish his memory. His legacy includes his sons, Dante Oliveras (Salisbury) and Michael Brice-Saddler (Washington, DC), and grandson, Zeke Oliveras. A void will forever remain in the lives of his sisters, Kim Brooks (Baltimore), Clytrice Watson (Michael) of Dover; DE, Lisa King (Salisbury), his brothers Steve Donaldson, (Rochester, NY) and Larry Austin (Marlene) of Upper Marlboro, MD and a host of nieces and nephews. Amos also had life-long friends that were constants in his life, Marvin Bright (Bel Air, MD) and Darryl Postley (Raleigh, NC). He is preceded in death by his mother; Dora Brooks; father, Amos Brooks; brother, Wayne Brooks; sister, Dierdre Brooks and nephew, Alphanzo "David" Yarrell. The loss of a loved one is never easy, but there is comfort in knowing that Amos accepted Christ into his life and was baptized in 2004. Amos was fortunate to have loved, been in love and was loved by many. It is through love that we will cherish the time that we had with him on this earth.
