Both his parents were of royal parentage. His father was one of the children of HRH Oba Joseph Sofunke Oyenusi, Onirolu of Irolu. His mother was from the Amolese royal family of Soyindo-Sagamu. The name “Adetunji” was given to him by his paternal grandfather after the latter survived a major surgical operation. The name means “My Crown has Re-Awoken”. Adetunji was a go getter, constantly striving to learn more and broaden his horizons. His educational journey began at St. Jude’s Primary School in Lagos, Nigeria. He proved his intelligence early on by receiving a double promotion and earning a spot in Entebbe Mathematics Class for advanced math. He continued his pursuit of education by attending Government College in Ibadan, Nigeria for high school. He was very active, participating in choir, tennis, and cadet unit until his graduation in 1975. Adetunji continued his university preparation at the Federal School of Arts and Science in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. He received his GCE Advanced Levels in 1978 in mathematics, physics, and geology. In 1979, Adetunji traveled to the United States to study City Planning and Architecture at Howard University and received his bachelor’s degree in City and Regional Planning in 1985. He put his studies into excellent practice by being one of the team of students at Howard’s School of Architecture and Planning who designed a memorial for Mount Vernon slaves which was erected at the slave burial grounds in Mount Vernon, Virginia. He was awarded and recognized for his efforts on October 26th, 1982. Continuing his studies, he received his master’s degree in Architecture from Morgan State University in 1993. Adetunji began to work, right after receiving his master’s, on what he loved best, construction and design. He worked for two years starting in 1993 as an Assistant Project Manager for Struever Bros, Eccles & Rouse, a structural engineering company in Baltimore, Maryland. He gained an impressive reputation in the field and joined Metroventures USA, a real-estate development company in Baltimore, as a Project Manager in 1995. He worked there for three years and was involved in all aspects of the planning process for the development and maintenance of many residential, commercial, and retail construction projects. Adetunji received the wonderful opportunity to work for Heery International in 1998 as a Project Manager. In his three years in that position, he was able to provide architectural design and construction quality review for the federal government. His projects included working on buildings for the United States Department of Defense. In 2001, Adetunji joined Realty Executives/2000 as a Realtor and Office Manager, and later transferred to ZipRealty after several years. He was a recipient of multiple awards and recognition including the Anne Arundel County Distinguished Achievement Sales Club, Realty Executives International 100% Club, and the Top 10% Franchise Executives Club for his leadership. Adetunji was very active in church, serving as a steward and subsequently a trustee at Bethel AME Church. Up until his death, he was a minister and member of Christ Dominion Church of God International. He was also ordained as a minister by Christ Throne Ministries. Adetunji had taken a strong liking to the city of Baltimore, Maryland after attending Morgan State University and he settled there to start a family. Adetunji is survived by his wife of over 25 years, Morenike (née Euba), and three children: Olufemi, Oyinade, and Olamide Oyenusi. He is also survived by his siblings, Mrs. Adeola Fajolu, Mr. Adebowale Oyenusi, Mr. Adeniyi Oyenusi, and several nieces and nephews.
